Background

The Asian Indoor and Martial Arts Games (AIMAG) are organised and managed by the Olympic Council of Asia (OCA). It is a pancontinental, multisport event held every four years.

Its participants include athletes of two continents, members of National Olympic Committees (NOCs) of Asia and Oceania, making it a total of 46 countries and territories. AIMAG is an amalgamation of two former OCA events: the Asian Indoor Games (AIG) and the Asian Martial Arts Games (AMAG) which amalgamated in 2013.

Two AIMAG editions have been held: 2013 Incheon (South Korea) and 2017 Ashgabat (Turkmenistan) with the postponed 2021 Bangkok-Chonburi (Thailand) edition now to be held in 2022 due to the ongoing COVID-19 coronavirus pandemic.

A total of 30 sports are to be featured. The medal sports are: indoor athletics, cue sports, bowling, dance sport, chess, futsal, roller sports, sport climbing, short course swimming, muay thai, jujitsu, BMX cycling, hoop takraw/speak takraw, kurash, floorball, netball, taekwondo, indoor hockey, karate, esports, badminton, pencak silat, cheerleading, sambo, indoor rowing, volleyball, basketball 3x3, traditional wrestling and kickboxing.

Teqball and air sports (Indoor Drone Racing) have been included as demonstration events.

Participation

  • From the Oceania Continent, three countries have won medals at AIMAG: Australia with two medals (2 bronze), Fiji with two medals (1 gold, 1 silver), Marshall Islands with 1 silver medal and Samoa with 1 bronze medal.
