Despite the challenge of this being her first Olympics, Team Fiji sailor Sophia Morgan was not the only one that was finding difficulty on the opening day of the Laser Radial competition.
The Kamakura course proved brutally tricky to read in the light, offshore winds, and some big names took a tumble while some lesser known lights rose to the occasion.
Most surprising was Germany's Svenja Weger who would emerge from the melée in first overall, Team Fiji's Sophia finished in 43rd place on the first race and 40th in her second race and was one of two Oceania sailors the other being Rose-Lee Numa from Team Papua New Guinea.
Sophia has another eight races to complete and FASANOC wishes her the best in her upcoming races.
Meanwhile Team Fiji Table Tennis Sally Yee pushed her opponent Guyana's Chelsea Edghill to the limit forcing a five set game.
First time Olympian Chelsea took a commanding first set lead 11 to 5 before Sally rallied back to win the second set 11 to 4.
However Sally's could not keep up as Chelsea won the next three sets convincingly.
