Team Fiji is proud to announce the launch of its official uniforms for the Paris 2024 Olympic Games, blending traditional Fijian attire with modern sportswear. The unveiling ceremony at the residence of the French Ambassador to Fiji in Suva, showcased the rich heritage and cultural identity of Fiji, symbolizing the nation's unity and pride as its athletes prepare to represent the country on the global stage.
At the heart of Team Fiji's Olympic wardrobe lies a deep-rooted tradition, as athletes will once again don the iconic Sulu and Bula shirt for Men, and the Sulu Jaba for Women at the Paris 2024 Olympic Games Opening Ceremony. These traditional garments serve as a testament to Fiji's cultural heritage, blending heritage with national pride in a display of elegance and unity.
"The masi motifs designed for FASANOC celebrates Fiji's rich traditions and natural beauty," said Ritesh Ratiram, Sponsorship & Marketing Manager at FASANOC. Masi play an important role in Fijian iTaukei culture, and are used in ceremonies and for decoration. Passed down from generation to generation, they are a source of great pride and are an important part of the iTaukei identity.
"The motifs, including the sun, vibrant flowers, and the traditional comb, connecting us to the lush tropical environment and to our heritage. The Sun, symbolizing life, energy, and spirituality and the flowers a representation of the natural beauty that Fiji is blessed with.
The blue hues chosen for the uniforms hold special significance, representing the vastness of the Pacific Ocean, Fiji's island nation status, and its unique geographical location. In a subtle yet powerful tribute to Fiji's maritime legacy, the uniforms also feature intricate prints incorporating the drua, the double-hulled Fijian canoe that graces the FASANOC logo. Symbolizing seafaring prowess, perseverance, and exploration, the drua embodies the spirit of Fiji's ancestors and the vast Pacific Ocean that surrounds the nation.
Apart from the traditional attire, Team Fiji will be outfitted in off-field uniforms sponsored by Nike, including polos, t-shirts, shorts, runners, bags, podium wear, caps, and jackets.
Nike will also provide the competition wear for the Men's and Women's Rugby 7s Teams, with the jersey design inspired by the shifting sands of Sigatoka Sand Dunes, a training ground where legends are forged.
