Set achievable goals, stay focused on the job ahead, maintain faith, discipline and believe in yourself were the encouraging words  from Pacific Mini Games Team Fiji Chef de Mission,  Ajay Ballu, to athletes preparing for the 2022 Mini Games in Saipan, Northern Marianas in June.

Ajay said despite COVID 19 restrictions and financial constraints, he expected Team Fiji athletes hoping to participate at the 2022 Pacific Mini Games to be competitive and committed.

"I have visited a few sports and informed them of Team Fiji's expectations which includes full commitment, passion for the sports during training and Games time.

"We are not going on holiday or to make up numbers at the Games, but to win medals and improve our standing from the last Mini Games," he said.

Ajay said he was aware of some of the difficulties athletes faced which included Gyms, training facilities, playing fields and other related sporting centers not being available because of COVID 19 restrictions.

"We encourage athletes to take up the responsibility and engage in positive mental preparations.

"Also it is important that athletes understand that they can achieve what they set out to accomplish with self belief and always trying to improve each and every day," he said.

"When you're running high on positive emotions, your motivation will flow and the reward at the end becomes so special," he said.

"Also, ensuring the importance for Team Fiji that discipline is maintained at all times, before, during and after the Games."

Ajay said Team Fiji was thankful to the Fiji Sports Council for allowing athletes to use certain facilities at a reasonable cost in order to maintain their standards and continue training.

Ajay said Team Fiji has capable administrators who are ready to assist and prepare the team for the Games.

Team Fiji expects to depart for the 2022 Pacific Mini Games on 10th June and will be in quarantine in Northern Marianas 5 days before the opening ceremony.

The travelling team will include only fully vaccinated athletes & officials.

In addition to the 5-day quarantine paid for by the Northern Marianas Organizing Committee, COVID-19 protocols are being developed to ensure the safety of athletes, officials and spectators.

Team Fiji was placed third at the last Pacific Mini Games in Vanuatu in 2017 and is aiming to improve this ranking.
