FASANOC is pleased to acknowledge the Commonwealth Games Federation's (CGF) announcement of Glasgow as the host city for the 2026 Commonwealth Games.
Set to take place from 23 July to 2August 2026, the Games will return to the Scottish city 12 years after the successful 2014 edition. The compact 10-sport programme will feature events across four venues within an eight-mile corridor, promising an exciting and accessible experience for athletes and spectators alike.
FASANOC CEO Vanessa Kilner expressed enthusiasm about Fiji's participation: "We look forward to Fiji taking part in the 2026Commonwealth Games in Glasgow. This event holds a special place in our sporting calendar. We're excited about the opportunities it presents for our athletes and we anticipate another memorable Games experience."
Fiji has a proud history of participation in the Commonwealth Games, including a notable performance at the2014 Glasgow Games where Apolonia Vaivai secured a bronze medal in weightlifting. Fiji has won 4 Gold medals, 7 Silver and 12 Bronze medals from their17 appearances at the Commonwealth Games.
Key points about Glasgow 2026:
· The Games will feature approximately 3,000 athletes from up to 74 Commonwealth nations and territories.
· The sports programme includes Athletics, Swimming, Artistic Gymnastics, Track Cycling, Netball, Weightlifting, Boxing, Judo, Bowls, and 3x3 Basketball, with para- sport events integrated throughout.
· Over 500,000 tickets will be available, offering spectators the chance to experience world-class competition.
FASANOC will be sending out expressions of interest to National Federations to begin the process of team selection and preparation. The organization is committed to fielding a strong and competitive team across eligible sports.
