Team Fiji continued its winning streak last night in the sport of Rugby Sevens where both the men and women defeated their opponents to secure another two gold medals at the 2023 Pacific Games in Honiara, Solomon Islands.
Team Fiji continued its winning streak last night in the sport of Rugby Sevens where both the men and women defeated their opponents to secure another two gold medals at the 2023 Pacific Games in Honiara, Solomon Islands.
Team Fiji men’s 7s defended their gold medal at the Pacific Games after beating Samoa 19-5 at the Main Stadium in Honiara.
Team Fiji women’s 7s also managed to defend their gold medal against a very good Papua New Guinea team 17 -7.
Both teams dedicated the win to their family members in Fiji and the Fijian Community in the Solomon Islands.
Team Fiji Men's player Sakiusa Siqila said the win was special for them as they were a young team.
"As players we are grateful to get the opportunity to wear the white jersey and to come away with a win is always special," he said.
Meanwhile the most capped player in Team Fiji Women's 7s side, Lavenia Tinai said the talent depth in the womens team was amazing.
"The young girls joining the team have showed that they are capable of going far in this sport," she said.
Both teams finished their tournament undefeated going into the finals.
