Chef de Mission, Ajay Ballu today named a team of 496 taking part in 25 sports including two para-sports that will participate at the 2023 Pacific Games in Honiara, Solomon Islands between 19 November and 2 December 2023.
Chef de Mission, Ajay Ballu today named a total team size of 592 which includes 102 Non-Travelling Reserves taking part in 25 sports – including two para sports that will participate at the 2023 Pacific Games in Honiara, Solomon Islands between 19 November and 2 December 2023.
"Today is a very important day for Team Fiji because this is a culmination of all the hard work that have taken place behind the scene from well over 18 months ago.
"It started with an interest from the National Federations to participate in the Games and under strict timelines, final team names were submitted and underwent a Selection Justification process before the final Names were submitted to the Executive Board and the Board of Management for Approval and Endorsement," he said.
Ajay congratulated those athletes, coaches and officials that have been chosen and also reminded those that were not chosen that there was a 48 hour appeals window that allows athletes and officials to appeal their cases if they feel they have been unfairly deprived of the opportunity to represent Fiji.
FASANOC will accept written appeals lodged at Fiji Olympic House or emailed to ceo@fasanoc.org.fj (Subject APPEAL) 1 PM SATURDAY 23RD SEPTEMBER 2023.
"In terms of the Games Venue; we have been having regular updates with the Pacific Games Organizing Committee as well as our Fijian Community based on the Solomon Islands and we are pleased with the venues and looking forward to seeing everyone on the 14th of November," he said.
Team Fiji's scheduled itatau to His Excellency the President is on the 8th of November after which an advance party will depart for the Solomon Islands to ensure logistics and team registrations are in order.
"The first half of our delegation will depart Fiji on 14th November and return on 25th November and the second half of the delegation will depart on 25th November and return on 3rd December after the closing Ceremony.
"There are some sports programs that covers the whole two weeks which means that some sports will go up on the first flight and come back on the last flight.," Ajay said.
