The Fiji Association of Sports and National Olympic Committee (FASANOC) is committed to supporting the International Olympic Committee's (IOC) message about the positive health, social and economic impacts of sport on society through its own strategic plan.

IOC President Thomas Bach said that since the first “Olympism and Corona” message in April, the IOC's message about the positive health, social and economic impacts of sport on society at large has gained considerable momentum.

"What we can see now is that sport is widely recognised as an essential factor in fighting the pandemic, which still persists in many countries.”

"Sport is also accepted as an integral part of the solution for the crisis recovery, which is underway in other countries," he said.

Mr Bach said that the IOC was also thankfulto see live sports events taking place again.

He said the very positive reception of these events clearly demonstrates that not only athletes and sports organisations but also the public at large have been longing for the return of sport as an integral part of our lives.

"We also see that sport can be organised safely, even under the ongoing restrictions. This should give all of us confidence in our preparations for future events, including the Olympic Games Tokyo 2020," Mr Bach said.

He thanked the sporting community who are working with great responsibility and creativity to organise sports events, safeguarding the health of all concerned.

Mr Bach said based on this early success, the IOCislooking forward to the time when the many restrictions, which are essential now, can be eased.

Meanwhile, FASANOC’s Voices of the Athletes (VOA) Program has been very active since the lifting of the COVID Restrictions in Fiji. The VOA Champions have been delivering the messages of Stay Strong, Stay Healthy, Stay Active, Play True, Play Safe, Go Green and Be A Leader.

VOA will be advocating these messages at the upcoming IDC tournament this weekend with teams from around the country.

FASANOC is excited to further promote the IOC’s #StrongerTogether campaign by running ads or rather Public Service Announcements (PSAs) showcasing Athlete Champions who relay social messages about making healthy choices, staying active, not littering and many others.

You can see some of the PSAs on the FASANOC page, fasanoc.org.fj.
