The Fiji Association of Sports and National Olympic Committee (FASANOC) in an effort to further enhance the collaboration amongst its various Commissions, held a Resurgence Agenda Workshop on the 28th of September, 2019.

The Commissions in attendance included the High Performance, Women in Sports, Sports Education, Athletes, Selection Justification and Medical Commissions.

Each Commission has specific responsibilities which are overseen by a member of FASANOC's Executive Board.

The participants in the workshop were FASANOC staff, Commission members, Drug Free Sport Fiji and members of FASANOC’s Executive Board.

The Workshop reviewed Commission Programmes and Terms of Reference and contribution to achieving FASANOC's Strategic Plan and Resurgence Agenda outcomes with the objective  of revaluating  the Commission’ contribution in delivering FASANOC’s Strategic Plan 2017 – 2021 and its accompanying Resurgence Agenda.

Workshop Facilitator, Talemo Waqa said it was important that during the workshop, the participants were aware of the strategic direction that FASANOC's Commissions wanted to take amongst other things.

"Also FASANOC needs to have an external focus on how, why and what   other National Olympic Committees are doing right that makes them successful," he said.

The Workshop looked back at the achievements and challenges of the  Resurgence Agenda in relation to Team Fiji’s performance in the past and at the recent Pacific Games held in Samoa.  "Good progress has been made in areas such as capacity building for National Federations, however a lot of work is still required in Athlete Development & Performance Support and Peak Performance in Competition, said Talemo.

The Workshop also took the opportunity to congratulate FASANOC's Sports Development Officer, Makalesi Bulikiobo, who became just one of four Fijians to have graduated with an Executive Masters in Sport Organisation Management (MEMOS) Degree.

It was timely that she presented her final project to the group which focused on Monitoring and Evaluation of FASANOC’s current Strategic Plan.

FASANOC President Makarita Lenoa said with sports being an enabler of national development on a lot of fronts, it was imperative that the focus group used the opportunity to set the tone for the Resurgence Agenda to deliver on FASANOC’s and Team Fiji’s future goals.
