Team Fiji Va'a paddler Elenoa Vateitei managed to secure a gold medal in the V1 Women's 500m event at the 2023 Pacific Games in Honiara, Solomon Islands.
Tailevu lass Elenoa Vateitei managed to win improve from the last Pacific Games where she won a silver in the same event.
"The conditions were a bit tough with strong winds and waves, but all the glory to the man upstairs," she said.
Elenoa said she was happy and that there were a lot of people that she would like to thank.
"I'm just a vessel that has been empowered to achieve these things because of the support of the people around me," she said.
Her teammates would also go one to claim a bronze medal in the Women's V12 500m race.
Team Fiji Va'a Outrigger Vice Captain Mereoni Chung said they were extremely excited about the win.
"This is just day one and we have a whole week ahead of us of races and we are looking forward to the challenges ahead," she said.
Mereoni called on Team Fiji supporters to come out and support the team as they prepare for more competition ahead.
